ORDRE fashion director Kirsten Lock met with Chinese designer Angel Chen during New York Fashion Week to discuss her SS'19 collection, shown in collaboration with Tmall.

Inspired by the legend of Ching Shih, known in China as a powerful female pirate from the Quing Dynasty. The story of how Ching Shih evolved from prostitute to feared leader was the starting point for Chen's SS'19 collection, which sought to represent the strength and determination of Ching Shih and her generation, fusing east and western design styles together in a blur of colour.

Although based in Shanghai, where she has just presented her collection during Shanghai Fashion Week, Angel Chen has a global mindset, with a notable retail strategy. The brand has embraced trunk shows and pop up stores around the world, with a particular focus on the emerging markets in Chen's native China.
