Rising Chinese star Ming Ma only just debuted his first collection last year, yet he’s already gaining unprecedented global recognition: tier-1 retailers like Lane Crawford and Joyce were amongst the first to snap up his ultra-feminine statement pieces, and 15 other specialist boutiques across China were quick to follow suit. After wooing international markets at his debut presentations in Milan and Paris, the designer is now set to take Shanghai Fashion Week by storm with his third runway show.
Yet it comes as no surprise that Ma has generated all this attention in just three short seasons. Executed with careful consideration for the modern woman, the designer’s flattering, airy silhouettes are universally appealing and undeniably relevant. As Ma puts it: “I have a lot of dresses with beautiful ruffles, voluminous shapes and exaggerated sleeves. Women want to be feminine and elegant but also dynamic, and I want to express the modernity of contemporary women.” Mark our words, Ming Ma is here to stay.
Below, watch the rising talent discuss retail partnerships and SS’20 influences with ORDRE’s fashion director Kirsten Lock during Paris Fashion Week.
