Meet Rue-L, the emerging label redefining streetwear through unconventional cuts and traditional tailoring.

Cross-pollinating traditional tailoring with sportswear silhouettes, London-based Rue-L is a luxury streetwear brand with a fresh M.O. Inspired by their urban surroundings and nomadic upbringing, Celine Kreis and Suman Gurung launched the brand in 2016 to create elevated staples for women on the go. “Suman is from Nepal and I’m from Singapore, so our experience of London is very different,” Kreis reveals in an interview with ORDRE’s fashion director Kirsten Lock. “It’s a big culture shock, and that definitely feeds into the attitude of our collection and what we take inspiration from.”

Focusing on the use of comfortable jerseys, Rue-L’s strong suit lies in unconventional pattern cutting: feminine pieces are expertly crafted into overlapping shapes that hug the body with ease, while unexpected twists appear on cropped jackets and jumpers. For AW’19, the duo introduced leather into the collection to increase their product offering and high-end appeal, a move which marks the beginning of a wider expansion plan: with a growing list of top-tier stockists such as Machine-A in London, Kith in the US and Gr8 in Tokyo, the duo are now keen to land department stores like Lane Crawford. Below, find out why Rue-L should be on your radar.
