Following the continued success of the International Woolmark Prize competition, which saw DYNE win the inaugural Innovation Award, Bodice the Womenswear Award and Matthew Miller the Menswear Award for the 2017/18 edition, the prestigious competition is expanding its reach with a new online nomination process. Applications are now open to any brand worldwide that can meet the criteria.
The Woolmark Company champions designers and brands in the early stages of their careers that are dedicated to expanding their business and establishing themselves in the global market.
To be eligible, brands must demonstrate consistency in their innovative use of fabrics and textiles of products that have been produced commercially for a minimum of three years and a maximum of eight years. Only brands which are not stocked by more than five of the IWP retail network companies can participate.
One of the major strengths of IWP is to connect emerging design talent directly with global retailers. The IWP retail network extends from influential boutiques and concept stores including the likes of Seoul-based Boon The Shop, to mega department stores such as Harvey Nichols and Lane Crawford. Winners and finalists will have their Merino wool capsule collections commercialised and sold by the IWP retail partners, and will also be available here in ORDRE’s online wholesale showrooms.
The IWP retail network is a powerful support system that helps young talents embrace new markets, reach new clients and build on relationships to grow and commercialise their brands.
“The International Woolmark Prize nominating bodies remain welcome to nominate the best emerging design talent within their region,” explains The Woolmark Company's Managing Director, Stuart McCullough, in an official press release. “Yet by opening up the nomination process we continue to expand the reach of the International Woolmark Prize and uncover the next big names of the fashion industry.”
A winning prize of AU$270,000 will be awarded to womenswear and menswear finalists who showcase sustainable innovation and creativity in their category. An additional AU$100,000 grant will be given for great innovation.
Applications are now open on the International Woolmark website until March 20th.
