Since launching in 2014, New York-based designer Mimi Prober has won over A-listers like Rihanna and Erykah Badu with her delicate, artisanal aesthetic. Through a zero-waste design philosophy, Prober creates ready-to-wear and jewellery lines that offer an authentic history and story - an approach which landed her a debut slot on the official NYFW calendar in February 2017.
Founded by South Korean-born Jiwon Ree in 2015, London-based J.won is a playful yet sophisticated knitwear label. Since its launch, prestigious retailers including Le Bon Marche in Paris, Beams in Tokyo, and Shinsegae in Seoul have snapped up the brand for its colourful and meticulously crafted pieces.
British-Chinese designer Johanna Ho established PHVLO in 2017 to create versatile and multi-functional collections inspired by performance wear. Using fabrics and technology designed to have minimal impact on the environment, Ho aims to counterbalance wasteful and exploitative production practices: a concept admired by leading department stores including Hong Kong’s Lane Crawford.
Former Ukrainian fashion editors, Kate Zubarieva and Asya Varetsa, dreamt up nightwear-brand Sleeper in 2014. Inspired by silk slip dresses and pyjama silhouettes from the ‘90s, Sleeper’s chic yet effortless loungewear has graced the shop floors of Barneys in New York, Harrods in London and TSUM in Kiev and is now beloved by influential icons like Emily Ratajkowski and Leandra Medine.
Pernille Nadine started Søster Studio in 2017, offering elegant tailored pieces with a focus on environmental responsibility and transparency. Opening their first season to retailers for AW’19, London’s Søster Studio has already secured stockists such as F5 Concept Store and Luck in Oslo.
Another London brand, Gayeon Lee’s collections explore new possibilities in texture, shape and proportion inspired by a love of fine art, a deep understanding of textiles and a conceptually driven mindset. The label’s global roster of stockists includes Beijing’s Higo, Ciaro’s Boutique 51, and Abu Dhabi’s The Exposed House.
