THE FASHION AWARDS 2017: WINNERS AND HONOREES ANNOUNCED
The Fashion Awards, in partnership with Swarovski, returned to London’s Royal Albert Hall on December 4th. The annual event is a celebration of the best individuals in fashion for outstanding creativity, innovation and career milestones. The British Fashion Council (BFC) announced fourteen winners to a group of 4,000 guests. The event was hosted by actor-comedian Jack Whitehall and supermodel-entrepreneur Karlie Kloss, and featured the iconic Miss Piggy as the carpet presenter.
The award ceremony is a primary foundraiser for the BFC's Education Foundation; a program that offers scholarships to fashion students within industry bodies. A large number of celebrity A-listers walked the red-carpet including Alexa Chung, English singers Sam Smith and Rita Ora, Selena Gomez and many more.
Highlights of the evening include a celebration of the late couturier Azzedine Alaïa for his legacy and 60 year career; models wore his most memorable designs and an emotional Naomi Campbell gave a touching tribute. Christopher Bailey was given the Outstanding Contribution to British Fashion Award, presented by Anna Wintour for his extrodinary trasformation of the brand Burberry. Maria Grazia Chiuri, upon accepting her award for Positive Change, acknowledged the late Italian Vogue Editor in Chief, Franca Sozzani.
