Fashion month is a crucial period for luxury fashion buyers, and out of all four major cities, London is known for showcasing disruptive and emerging talent. From the likes of Richard Quinn, who launched just three years ago and is now stocked in tier 1 worldwide retailers including Net-A-Porter and Matches, to brand new names like Nensi Dojaka and Ancuta Sacar - LFW SS’20 provided a great range of shows.
On Saturday 14th of LFW, Browns buyer Costanza Lombardi took over ORDRE’s Instagram to show Molly Goddard, Marques Almeida, Halpern and House of Holland through her eyes. When the six day affair wrapped up, Lombardi reported to ORDRE on her buyer insights. Here’s what she thought:
ORDRE: As an introduction please describe your position and the buy that you currently curate for Browns?
Lombardi: “I started as an assistant buyer at Browns but I’m now a buyer, I look after emerging designers and casualwear.”
ORDRE: What designers were you most anticipating at LFW? Were there any stand out shows or presentations?
Lombardi: “I am always excited about London as I think it is one of the most interesting scenes for new designers. Supriya Lele’s first show was great, but I also loved the more established designer shows such as Simone Rocha and Molly Goddard.”
ORDRE: As a buyer, how do you approach fashion week?
Lombardi: “Notes on my phone are everything! I tend to actually attend more showrooms than shows as it is really important for me to have a closer look at the garments and have business conversations with the brands.”
ORDRE: Were there any new design talents that you discovered? Were there any stand out pieces that you think are going to sell really well?
Lombardi: “I was very happy to see that new talents reached great heights with their collections. Supriya really pushed the boundaries with her show and it was really amazing to watch. There are lots of new discoveries and business opportunities that are currently in discussion but unfortunately I can’t disclose these at the moment.”
ORDRE: What do you think are the biggest SS’20 trends in London?
Lombardi: “Statement dresses and great accessories! This season there also seemed to be a move towards more wearable fashion which is great to see.”
ORDRE: Is there a certain price point that you aim for when buying? “It really depends - the market is very varied and there are opportunities for great pieces at every price point.”
