Chairman of the British Fashion Council Natalie Massenet, group fashion buying director for Harvey Nichols, Anita Barr and Victoria Beckham join a selection of fashions most influential to judge this years prize, the Woolmark Company announced early today.
The International Woolmark Awards taking place on January 23 in Paris will be judged by the following reputable figures; Rami Atallah, co-founder and CEO of Ssense.com; Benn McGregor, senior buyer of menswear at Harvey Nichols; Michael Hadida, director of development and men's buyer at Leclaireur; Michèle Lamy, Owenscorp partner; Nelson Mui, VP of men’s fashion director of Hudson’s Bay Company; Takehiko Suzuki, general manager of men's and sportswear at Isetan Mitsukoshi; Stefano Tonchi, editor-in-chief at W Magazine; Imran Amed, founder and editor of the BoF; Jefferson Hack, CEO and co-founder of Dazed Media; Olivier Lalanne, deputy editor at Vogue Paris and editor-in-Chief of Vogue Hommes; Shayne Oliver, creative director at Hood By Air; Fabrizio Servente, global strategy advisor of The Woolmark Company; and Leilah Weinraub, CEO of Hood By Air will be nominating the menswear component of the prize.
They will elect six menswear nominees from six world regions including; Rochambeau from the USA, Ex Infinitas from Australia and New Zealand; Cottweiler from the British Isles; Munn from Asia; Tonsure from Europe; Bounipun from India, Pakistan and the Middle East.
The womenswear division of the competition is also judged by some of the most esteemed names in the industry. Massenet, Beckham and Barr are joined by Chief brand officer at Lane Crawford Joanna Gunn; co-founder and co-CEO of Boutique 1 Group, Lena Jabbour Matta; general manager of womenswear at David Jones, Damian Burke; senior vice president and fashion director of Hudson’s Bay Company, Suzanne Timmins; editor-in-chief of VogueGermany, Christiane Arp; contributing editor to Vogue Paris, Suzanne Koller; Buro 24/7's Miroslava Duma; Lanvin creative director, Bouchra Jarrar; fashion and lifestyle editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair, Virginie Mouzat; founder of System Magazine, Elizabeth Von Guttman; singer and actress Lou Doillon and Stuart McCullough, managing director of The Woolmark Company to select the womenswear winner.
The judges will be selecting from six womenswear designers from six regions: Macgraw from Australia and New Zealand; Gabriela Hearst from the USA; Tim Labenda from Europe; Nachiket Barve from India, Pakistan and the Middle East; Toton from Asia; and Faustine Steinmetz from the British Isles.
The grand final winner will take out the AU$100,000 prize in addition to the AU $50,000 lump sum every finalist received with a six month mentoring program. The finalists also are sponsored by ORDRE who gives each International Woolmark Prize global finalist the opportunity to be showcased in the International Woolmark Prize Showroom, with the two global winners granted their own individual space. In addition, ORDRE will provide each finalist with assistance to negotiate retailer enquiries, allowing the world’s best emerging design talents greater access to new stockists and markets along with the chance to communicate directly with them on a global level. The winner will also have their collections hosted in top retailers around the world including Harvey Nichols in London, David Jones in Australia, Isetan in Japan, Hudsons Bay in Canada, Boutique1 in the UAE, Boon the Shop from Korea, Leclaireur from France, The Papilion from Taiwan, Lane Crawford from Hong Kong and MyTheresa online.
To launch the event, The Woolmark Company has commissioned Rankin to shoot the accompanying campaign entitled Unravelled, starring Jefferson Hack, Tim Blanks and Carmen Kass and featuring looks from this year's finalists.
