All eyes were on Copenhagen this August, with buyers and industry leaders flocking to the capital for Fashion Week and Copenhagen International Fashion Fair - the largest and longest-running fashion fair in Northern Europe.

Now in its 5th year, CIFF sees over 2,000 Nordic and international labels present their collections bi-annually across 60,000 square meters of showroom exhibition space. As a growing fashion hub and host of one of Europe’s most dynamic trade show platforms for emerging talents and cutting-edge designers, the Danish capital has started to prove itself as a leading fashion destination. Discover our top list of under the radar Scandinavian menswear designers who are pushing the envelope.

CMMN SWDN

Offering hybrid menswear classics mixing wardrobe staples with standout pieces, CMMN SWDN is a progressive label using only premium Japanese fabrics. With a supreme sensibility for 70’s-esque colour palettes including sandy pinks, rich burgundies, and mustard yellows, the label draws inspiration from the energy and noise of youth subcultures and suave sartorial menswear classics. Founded in 2012 by Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion graduates, Saif Bakir and Emma Hedlund, CMMN SWDN is a true amalgamation of refined Scandinavian minimalism and London street edge.

VERENA SCHEPPERHEYN

With numerous accolades already under her belt and having presented at London Collections Men and Paris Men’s Fashion Week, Verena Schepperheyn launched her eponymous label in Berlin after graduating with a Master's degree in menswear from ArtEZ in Arnhem. With sharp tailoring anchored by an interplay of organic and strong geometrical shapes, the label focuses on a clean aesthetic with bursts of sportswear and art movement references, featuring unexpected details such as embroidery, graphic prints, textile manipulation and unusual fabric combinations.

OUR LEGACY

Stockholm-based label OUR LEGACY was founded in 2005 by Jockum Hallin and Cristopher Nying. Launching with a line of graphic tees and a first full collection in 2007, over the years the label developed from being product oriented - offering classic street basics with an effortless appeal - to a more conceptual and experimental brand with collections based on defined themes and a more sophisticated and disruptive approach to design. Determined by well tailored outerwear staples made from quality materials and polished cuts, it has quickly grown into a marque of cult status. They opened three independent stores in Gothenburg and Stockholm, with a fourth store in London having garnered a strong international following.

WON HUNDRED

Embodying an urban rock-chic sensibility, Copenhagen-based unisex label Won Hundred presents a mix of versatile, timeless wardrobe staples with a daring and raw edge. Quality denim and leather define the label’s DNA, with collections ranging both men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, all infused with a colourful, gutsy attitude and inspired by classic laidback-cool Scandinavian style.

TRES BIEN

Tres Bien is a Sweden-based brand with a no-fuss aesthetic. It provides luxury essentials that combine custom made fabrics and clean lines with streetwear elements such as bold graphics and loose fits. The label also doubles as a multi-label retailer featuring a mix of established fashion houses such as JW Anderson, Raf Simons and Jil Sander, as well as more undiscovered names.

SOULLAND

Tracing back to 2002, Soulland is label rooted in Scandinavian artisanship, reimagined with a contemporary feel. Known for its offbeat graphic tees, typographic slogan sweatshirts, colourful button downs and artistic prints, as well as sportswear influences and off-kilter outerwear, the label has drawn a loyal international following from the creatively inclined and beyond.
